Sune Hjerrild

Sune Hjerrild - Tenor

Sune Hjerrild was born in Denmark in 1973, and still lives here with his wife Christina and four children, but actually he is also partly French not to mention that his italian grandfather Achille Azzano was born in Azzano Decimo in northern Italy.Hjerrild started to sing at the age of 17 and started dreaming of a singing career when he was in high school.

His dream came true after his participation in both the Placido Domingo Opera Contest and BBC Cardiff Singer of the World. This led to numerous international engagements. For instance he was invited to sing
Tamino in Mozart’s Magic flute, conducted by Sir Neville Mariner at the opening of the new Megaron Opera in Athens. He has also performed at the Sidney Opera, Opera de Limoges, Opera Lyrique de Tourcoing (during the European city of culture 2004 in Lille), The Opera in Leipzig, Teatro di San Carlo in Napoli, and of course both the Danish National and Royal Operas.

He was recently engaged with The Singapore Symphony Orchestra, where he sang
Faust in Berlioz’ La Damnation de Faust. Recently he also sang Berlioz’s L’enfance du Christ along side with the World bass Alastair Miles and conducted by Matthew Best. 2009 he sang at the Spanish Mozart festival in la Coruña as Soliman in a new Graham Vick production of Zaide.

His most recent(in no less than 13 performances) was his debut as
Alfredo in La Traviata at the Danish National Opera. In March he sang Mendelssohn’s Elijah with RAI in Torino under the Baton of Hansjörg Albrecht.

His next Opera performance will be as
Don Octavio in Mozart's Don Giovanni at the Steirischer Herbst Festival in Austria. Later in the fall of 2010 he will sing the role of Edmondo inManon Lescaut at the Danish National Opera.
