Sefanie Irànyi

Stefanie Irànyi - Mezzosoprano

The German mezzosoprano Stefanie Iranyi was born in the Chiemgau. She began her musical studies early with flute and violin lessons and attended the Bayrische Singakademie while still in school.
After an extended trip abroad, she began her vocal study at the Hochschule fuer Musik und Theater in Munich, which she completed with honors in 2006.

During this time she was a masterclass student in the class of Professor Helmut Deutsch. Important influences also came from classes with Sarah Walker, Sena Jurinac and Christa Ludwig. She is a scolarship holder of the Yehudi Menuhin Foundation and was a prize winner of the Deutschen Buehnenverein in 2000.

As a member of the opera class of the University in Munich she appeared as
Bradamante in Haendel’s „Alcina“ in the Markgraeflichen Opernhaus in Bayreuth as well as the Cuvillies Theater in Munich.
Stefanie Iranyi holds prizes from the Robert Schumann Competition in Zwickau 2004 and the Munich International (Foerderpreiswettbewerb)in the category ‚Romantic Song’, as well as the first prize in the Federal Song Competition in the fall of 2004.

She performs with the Bamberg Symphony („
Christmas Oratorio“ and „Messiah“) and gives song recitals with Helmut Deutsch (Barcelona, Schubertiade Vilabertran, Wigmore Hall, Geneva, Konzerthaus Wien).
Under the direction of Peter Schreier she sang the alto part in the „
St. Matthew Passion“ in Japan, with Helmut Rilling Bach’s „Magnificat“ and a leading roll in the Baroque Opera „Alarico“ by Agostino Steffani in Munich.
In April 2006 she appeared in the Teatro Regio in Torino in a new production of „
The Consul“ by Giancarlo Menotti with great success and was immediately engaged to sing Mozart’s Idamante in „Idomeneo“ in 2010.
Her repertoire includes all the important oratorios by Bach, Beethoven’s „
Missa Solemnis“, Mendelssohn’s „Elijah“ and „St Paul“, Dvorak’s „Stabat Mater“, the Alto Rhapsody by Brahms, Verdi’s „Requiem“ as well as many others.

Projects for the 2007/08 season included engagements in the opera houses of Venice, Naples, Parma and Bari, as well as concerts in Bregenz, Palermo and Torino. She will also be performing in Parma's Verdi Concert Cycle and in concerts in Vienna under the direction of Fabio Biondi and Martin Haselboeck.

In her discography are Dvorak's '
Requiem’, The title role in Simon Mayr's 'The Marriage of Tobias', as well as CD's with lieder and duets of Schumann and Brahms.
