Malin Hartelius - Soprano
The Swedish soprano Malin Hartelius studied in Vienna with Margarethe Bence. After starting her career as a member of The Vienna State Opera from 1989 to 1991 she was contracted by the Zurich Opera House appearing during the following years as Pamina, Adele, Konstanze, Aennchen, Elvira and Sophie.
She was invited by the Ludwigsburger Festspiele(1990) and the Schwetzinger Festspiele (1991) and appeared fort he first time at the Salzburger Festspiele as Barbarina in Le Nozze di Figaro 1992. In 1993 she gave her first recital at the Théatre du Chatelet in Paris.
The young soprano had her international breakthrough with a highly praised performance as Adina (L’elisir d’amore) at the Opera Frankfurt and an overwhelming success as Blondchen at the Salzburger Festspiele, conducted by Marc Minkovski.
Malin Hartelius took part in J.E.Gardiners Bach Cantata Pilgrimage in 2001 and sang her first Marzellina at the Munich State Opera, conducted by Zubin Mehta. She was praised for her appearance in Harnoncourt’s realisation of Schubert’s rarely played opera „Alfonso und Estrella“ in Zurich and appeared as soloist in various concerts with the Vienna Philharmonic, conducted by Wolfgang Sawallisch and Charles Mackerras.
In 2002/03 she sang Konstanze in a new production in Zurich and later in Munich, Hamburg, and with the Concerto Köln in Amsterdam and Lucerne. With this role she also appearde at the Festival d’Aix en Provence in 2004.
From 2005 to 2007 highlights include concerts with the Accademia Santa Cecilia, Cleveland Orchestra, Concertgebouworkest, Gewandhaus Leipzig, London Symphony, Bavarian Radio Symphony, Orchestra Verdi Milano, Philharmonia London, RSb Berlin and Tonhalle Orchester Zurich. She returned to the Opéra Bastille with „Les Indes Galantes“ and sang Sophie in a new production in Zurich as well as at the Wiener Staatsoper, followed by her debut as Elvira in Zurich.
In 2007 she returned to Vienna as Sophie and toured with the Cleveland Orchestra and Franz Welser-Möst performing at Carnegie Hall and the Musikverein in Vienna, and with the Zurich Opera in Japan.
In 2008 she sang Sophie, La Princesse (La Juive), Contessa (Le Nozze) and Armida (Rinaldo) in Zurich, to be followed by her first Fiordiligi and Tatjana in 2009. At the Salzburg Festival 2009 she sang the soprano in Mahler’s IV Symphony, as well as Fiordiligi, conducted by Adam Fischer. She was also the soloist in concerts with the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande (Elijah) in Geneva and Lausanne, and with the Cleveland Orchestra under the baton of Franz Welser-Möst (Brahms/Requiem) at the Wiener Musikverein.
Performances of „Cosi fan tutte“ in Cleveland will be among the highlights of 2010, as well as her debut as Leila (Les Pècheurs des Perles) in Zurich. Concerts with Beethoven’s IX and her first Marschallin in spring 2011 are clearly marking the expansion of her repertory, consequently planned for the next years.
In January 2010 Malin Hartelius has been honoured by th Swedish King in Stockholm with the award of the Order „Litteris et Artibus“.
