Jan Vacik

Jan Vacik - Tenor

Jan Vacik was born in Prague and performed his musical studies at the Conservatory in that city. He continued to study singing in Munich (with Else Domberger-Widmayer), at the Accademia Verdiana of Busseto and at the Corale Verdi in Parma.
From 1988 he is a member of the singing ensemble at the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich, since 1993 he is freelance.

His career has evolved rapidly with the debut of
Polux / Liebe der Danae by Richard Strauss conducted by W. Sawallisch and directed by G. del Monaco at Milano’s La Scala. Later he was guest of many theaters and international festivals: Japan (Nagoya and Tokyo), Don Juan conducted by Charles Macckerras in Prague, at the Opera in Rome, Teatro Regio in Parma and Comunale in Modena, at La Scala in Milano for the inauguration 1999/00 with Fidelio / Florestano (conducted by R. Muti, directed by W. Herzog / a production resumed in 2003), Dresden, Essen, Stuttgart, Lille and Palermo.

With Beeethoven’s
IX Symphony he partecipated in concerts with the Orchestra Sinfonica Siciliana in Palermo, the Haydn Orchestra in Bolzano, the Orquesta Sinfònica de Euskadi and the Orchestra di Roma e del Lazio at Parco della Musica di Roma.
He was
Peter Grimes at Teatro Verdi in Trieste and in Tel Aviv with Gary Bertini, a role he repeated with great personal success in 2005 in the theatres of Ferrara, Modena and Reggio Emilia.
Conducted by Charles Mackeras he was the protagonist in
“The excursions of Mr. Broucek” by Janacek at the Prague Festival in 2003.

He took part in the same opera in London in 2007 (BBC Orchestra conducted by Jiri Belohlavek), and in the same year he sang the
“Glagolitic Mass” by Janacek at the Teatro Lirico di Cagliari conducted by M° George Pehlivanian.

Among the commitments of 2008 there is
Jenufa in Luxembourg (conducted by Friedemann Layer, directed by Robert Carsen) and Martinu’s Greek Passion in Prague.
Among those in 2009
“From the House of the Dead” and “Glagolitc Mass” in Düsseldorf (conducted by John Fiore), “Salome” (Herod) in Prague with Tomas Netopil.

The artist enjoys working with directors such as A. Everding, J. Herz, H. Kupfer, A.M. Marelli, J. Schaaf, W. Herzog and has worked under prestigious rods of Wolfgang Sawallisch, Giuseppe Sinopoli, Leonard Slatkin, Fabio Luisi, Roberto Abbado, Gerd Albrecht, Gabriele Ferro, Philippe Augin, Jiri Belohlavek, Riccardo Muti, Charles Mackerras, Gary Bertini.
