Georg Zeppenfeld - Bass
Georg Zeppenfeld discovered his passion for music relatively late, after having passed the graduation exam. He had the good fortune to study with Hans Sotin at the School of music in Cologne. Since 2001 he is part of the singer ensemble at the Semperoper Dresden.
Under direction of prestigious rods, such as Marc Albrecht, MYChung, Daniele Gatti, Kent Nagano, Peter Schneider and Marcello Viotti, Fabio Luisi, the young bass has immediately created a broad operatic repertoire that spans eras and styles: from Mozart (Sarastro, Commander, Figaro, Bartolo, Don Alfonso) and Verdi (Sparafucile, Father Superior, Philip II), Wagner (Fasolt, Bieterolf, König Marke), Puccini (Colline) and Mussorgsky (Pimen / Boris).
Thanks to the quality of his voice was quickly invited by leading international theaters: from the Bayerische Staatsoper in Monaco for Luisa Miller/Wurm (dir.Massimo Zanetti, directed by Claus Guth) to Glyndebourne for Tristan and Isolde/King Marke (conductor Jiri Belohlavek , directed by Nikolaus Lehnhoff), from San Francisco to Zauberflöte/Sarastro (conducted by Donald Runnicles), to the Opera of Geneva for Lohengrin/König Heinrich (conductor Klaus Weise and director Daniel Slater), from the Paris Chatelet Theater and the Theater an der Wien for Zauberflöte (director Jean-Christophe Spinosi), to the Teatro Real in Madrid for Tristan und Isolde (director Jesus Lopez-Cobos, directed by Lluis Pasqual).
In Italy he participated in a highly praised Zauberflöte production in the theaters of Reggio Emilia and Ferrara under direction of Claudio Abbado and directed by his son Daniel, and sang in Beethoven's IX Symphony at Milano’s La Scala with the direction of Kurt Masur.
He made his debut at the Accademia Santa Cecilia in 2008 Parsifal / Gurnemanz (conductor Daniele Gatti), a role which was proposed also to the Staatsoper in Monaco with the direction of Kent Nagano. The autumn of 2009 will see his debut at the Met in New York in Zauberflöte.
Among the commitments of 2010 by Georg Zeppenfeld there will be Tannhäuser / Hermann (Mehta / Fura dels Baus) and Don Giovanni / Commander (Angre / Mussbach) at La Scala.
On the anniversary of the destruction of Dresden, Georg Zeppenfeld was in the Verdi Requiem conducted by Daniele Gatti and broadcast live on TV Arte.
