Daniel Borowski - Bass

Young Polish bass Daniel Borowski studied in Warsaw and in London. His professional career began at the Polish National Opera and the Gret Theatre in Poznan. In 1995 he was awarded with the 1st Prize at the 3rd International Stanislaw Moniuszko Singing Competition in Warsaw. 1998 he received the Glyndebourne Festival Opera’s John Christie Award. For his debut at the New York City Opera in 2001 as Banco/Macbeth he was named “Debut Artist of the Year”.

He has performed at the opera houses of Antwerp, Avignon, Berlin (Deutsche Staatsoper), Boston, Cagliari, Frankfurt, Geneva, Gent, Genova, Houston, Lyon, Madrid, Milano, Montpellier, Montréal, Nantes, New York (NY City Opera), Palermo, San Diego, Santa Fe, Seville, Strasbourg, Venice, and at the festivals of Glyndebourne, Orange, Schwetzingen, Spoleto, as well as with the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra, where his operatic repertoire included Bellinis
Oroveso/Norma, Beethovens Don Fernando/Fidelio, Donizetti’s Raimondo/Lucia di Lammermoor, Dvoraks Vodník/Rusalka, Mozarts Il Commendatore/Don Giovanni, Bartolo/Le nozze di Figaro, Sarastro/Die Zauberflöte, Puccinis Colline/La Bohème, Timur/Turandot, Rossinis Basilio/Il barbiere di Siviglia, Verdis Il re/Aida, Ramfis/Aida, Un frate/Don Carlo, Banco/Macbeth, Sparafucile/Rigoletto, Fiesco/Simon Boccanegra, Ferrando/Il trovatore, Wagners Daland/Der fliegende Holländer.

Daniel Borowski has worked with conductors such as Daniel Barenboim, Pierre Boulez, James Conlon, Sir Andrew Davis, Sir Colin Davis, Sir Edward Downes, Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos, Daniele Gatti, Michael Gielen, Hartmut Haenchen, Pedro Halffter, Daniel Harding, Bernard Labadie, Fabio Luisi, Sir Neville Marriner, Marc Minkowski, Gianandrea Noseda, Michel Plasson, Carlo Rizzi, Patrick Summers, Jeffrey Tate, Michael Tilson Thomas, Walter Weller and performed in concert with the following orchestras: Academy of St Martin in the Fields, BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, Dresdner Philharmoniker, London Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre Nationale de Lyon, Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della RAI Torino, San Francisco Symphony, Santa Cecilia Roma, Czech Philharmonic Orchestra.

Daniel Borowski’s discography includes CD recordings of Rossini’s
Stabat Mater (conductor: Marcus Creed), Beethoven’s IX Symphony (Enzo Roiatti), Verdi’s Adhémar/Jérusaleme (Fabio Luisi), Don Fernando/Fidelio (London Symphony Orchestra/Sir Colin Davis); as well as a DVD recording of Pietro/Simon Boccanegra from Glyndebourne Festival (Mark Elder).

In addition to his operatic engagements Daniel Borowski is a devoted concert singer: Beethoven’s
Christ on the Mount of Olives; IX Symphony, Bellini’s Mass in g major, Berlioz’ L’Enfance du Christ, Handel’s Messiah, Haydn’s The Creation, The Seasons, Janácek’s Glagolitic Mass, Mendelssohn’s First Walpurgisnacht, Mozart’s Requiem, Coronation Mass, Mussorgsky’s Songs and Dances of Death, Rossini’s Stabat Mater, Shostakovich’s XIV Symphony, Verdi’s Requiem.

In November 2009, Daniel Borowski made his debut at Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, where he sang
Archiereios in Szymanowski’s Krol Roger (Conducted by Josep Pons, produced by David Pountney).
