Bjarni Thor Kristinsson

Bjarni Thor Kristinsson - Bass

Bjarni Thor Kristinsson was born in Iceland in 1967. He studied voice at the Söngskolinn in Reykjavik and with Helene Karusso and Curt Malm in Vienna.
Between 1997 and 2000 the bass was a soloist at the Volksoper Vienna, where he interpreted numerous important roles of his repertoire including
Falstaff in Die lustigen Weiber von Windsor, Sarastro in Die Zauberflöte, Dulcamara in l’Elisir d’Amore and the title role in Turco in Italia.
The artist received the special attention of the press and the public with three new productions: in the role of
Bottom in Britten’s Midsummer Night’s Dream, as Pimen in Harry Kupfer’s production of Boris Godunov and as Pogner in Die Meistesinger von Nürnberg.

At the Staatsoper Berlin he gave his debut as
van Bett in Zar und Zimmermann and interpreted Osmin in the new production of Die Entführung aus dem Serail in autumn 2000 with great success. Several important roles at the Staatsoper in Berlin followed, including Ochs in Der Rosenkavalier and Bartolo in Le Nozze di Figaro.

Parsifal/Gurnemanz at the Gran Teatro del Liceau in Barcelona, Fidelio/Rocco in Hamburg, Ring/Fafner at the Bayerische Staatsoper Munich and La Fenice in Venedig, Freischütz/Kaspar at the NNTT in Tokyo, Entführung/Osmin in Lissabon, Palermo, La Coruna and Reykjavik, Rosenkavalier/Ochs in Dresden, Cologne, Wiesbaden, Dortmund and Tokyo, Lohengrin/König Heinrich in Frankfurt and Palermo, Rheingold/Wotan in Karlsruhe and Opéra Royal de Walloniein Liege, Zauberflöte/Sarastro in Monte Carlo, Le Nozze di Figaro/Bartolo at Theater an der Wien, Frau ohne Schatten/Geisterbote at the Bastille Oper in Paris and Holländer/Daland in Barcelona, Melbourne, Verona and Rome.

Bjarni Thor Kristinsson was awarded the Icelandic Theaterprize Griman in 2006 for his Performance of Osmin in the Icelandic Opera, Reykjavik.
