Alejandro M.-Buhrmester - Baritone

Internationally renowned, Alejandro Marco-Buhrmester has established himself as one of the most distinguished Heldenbaritones of his generation. After his debut at the Bayreuther Festspiele as
Nachtigall / Die Meistersinger in 2001, he was re-invited regularly to perform in roles such as Fritz Kothner / Die Meistersinger and Amfortas / Parsifal under P. Boulez. In summer 2006 he was praised for his debut as Gunther / Götterdämmerung in the new production of Ring des Nibelungen conducted by C. Thielemann.

In addition to his engagements as a Wagner Baritone, which took him to venues such as Oper Frankfurt (
Amfortas) and Opéra de Paris (Kurwenal), he dedicates a good amount of his time to Italian and French repertoire. In recent seasons he has performed Germont / La Traviata, Barbiere / Barbiere di Siviglia, Conte di Luna / Il Trovatore as well as Posa / Don Carlo and Nabucco. He is also established in the contemporary repertoire and has sung the title role in the world premiere of Reinhard Febel’s Sekunden und Jahre des Casper Hauser at the Dortmund Theatre and the title role in Jakob Lenz by Wolfgang Rhim at the Internationale Musikfesttage in Lucerne.

Alejandro Marco-Buhrmester has sung in venues like the Staatsoper Berlin, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Komische Oper Berlin, Theater Bonn, Oper Essen, Oper Frankfurt, Nationaltheater Mannheim, Staatstheater Saarbrücken, and the theatres of Genoa, Riga, Toulouse and the Opéra de Paris. His North-American debut led him to the Canadian Opera Company, Toronto, where he performed as
Miller / Luisa Miller and as Germont / La Traviata in 2007.

He has worked with renowned conductors like Daniel Barenboim, Pierre Boulez, Paolo Carignani, Valery Gergiev, Eliahu Inbal, Fabio Luisi, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Christian Thielemann and Simone Young.
In addition to his flourishing operatic career he is also in great demand as a concert singer. He sang Bach’s
Oratorios as well as Zemlinsky’s Lyrische Sinfonie, Beethoven’s IX and Mahler’s VIII Symphony. He was invited to the festivals in Bergen and Lucerne and went on a tour with Mendelssohn’s Elijah alongside the Windsbacher Knabenchor, the SWR Sinfonieorchester and Deutsches-Sinfonie Orchester Berlin.

This was followed by commitments to 'Opéra de Paris as
Amfortas / Parsifal (conductor Semyon Bychkov) and Teatro Real in Madrid as Kurwenal / Tristan (conductor Lopez-Cobos). In 2008 and 2009 he performed at Teatro Liceu in Barcelona the title role in the world premiere of La Cabeza del Bautista / Enrico Palomar.
He recently sang in Amsterdam
Guido di Montfort / Vespri Siciliani (conductor Paul Carignani), in Madrid Saint Francis of Assisi / Messiaen (conductor Sylvain Cambreling) and Gunther / Götterdämmerung in Tokyo. He will end 2011 with Orestes / Elektra in Rome and Kurwenal at the Ruhrtriennale (conductor Kirill Petrenko).

Plans for 2012/13 include
Amfortas with Ivan Fisher in Amsterdam, Klingsor in Lyon and at Teatro Real in Madrid, and Gunther / Götterdämmerung with Hartmut Haenchen in Amsterdam, completed by his intense concert activity with major German orchestras.
